Polymarket vs. Kalshi: How the Two Big Prediction Markets Differ

June 20, 2026 · 6 min read

Polymarket and Kalshi are the two names you will see most often, and WyldMarkets tracks public data from both. They answer similar questions but are built on very different foundations. Here is a plain, neutral rundown of how they differ — useful context whether or not you ever trade on either.

Kalshi

  • A US-based exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a designated contract market. That regulatory status is its defining feature.
  • Trades are denominated in US dollars, and it operates like a traditional financial venue.
  • Because it is centralized, individual trader identities are generally not public — activity you see is typically anonymized and aggregated.

Polymarket

  • An on-chain marketplace. Trades settle on a public blockchain using a dollar-pegged stablecoin (USDC), which makes a lot of activity transparent by default.
  • Because positions live on-chain, you can often see individual wallets — which is why “whale” tracking is far richer on Polymarket than on Kalshi.
  • Its availability to US persons has changed over time and depends on the current regulatory picture.

Why the same event can show two prices

When both platforms list the same question, their prices can diverge — different traders, different liquidity, different fees, and no automatic mechanism forcing them to agree. That gap is the “cross-market spread,” and it is a useful sanity check: when two independent crowds land on very different numbers, at least one of them is mispricing the question. WyldMarkets surfaces these spreads so you can see the disagreement at a glance.

This is a neutral, informational comparison — not an endorsement of either platform and not financial or betting advice. Availability and rules change; always check each platform’s own terms.
